.....it is kind of a weird concept, actually. If you have a crush on somebody, you're not in love with them. Still, you're not only in lust, most of the time. A real crush implies that you desperately want to be with this person and that your range of feelings varies from euphoric dancing on the street to writing really bad, really mean, really sulky love songs about the subject of your devotion (guilty). That can all be seriously fun. However, the one rule that always must be followed is this one: Don't ever mistake a crush for real love, because if you do, you're already in for some emotionally wrecking trouble.
To avoid such, here are some basics to recognize your feelings towards somebody as a case of crush....

1.Seeing him yawn can make you lose all interest you might have ever had in him.

That actually happens to me A LOT. Like, it's gotten to a point where whenever I notice a good-looking guy starting to yawn, I hastily look away to not ruin the decent impression they made. Nobody looks good while yawning. Nobody.

2.His new haircut makes you realize everything that is wrong with his face.

That's sad, but it saved you from a relationship solely based on some hair. One less bad story, lovelies.

3.You've never actually communicated with each other.

Also sad, but a pretty clear sign for a good ol' crush. Chances are that you are too shy and vulnerable to even think about giving him a signal (what even is a signal? Smiling? I smile at people all the time but I most certainly don't want to have any further contact with all of them. Leaning in when you talk? Firstly, that's offensive and secondly, you don't talk, remember?) and it would probably (bet on it) not work out at all if you did, because you don't really know this person. Leading to the next point:

4.You have planned out every single phase of your yet-to-exist relationship, sometimes even the break-up.

You meet, you crush, then you find yourself imagining a first date, a romantic slide show of couple-y activities, and then, for the hell of it, your first fight. Suddenly, you get bored of all the love and harmony going on in your fantasy world and you experience irrational fear of having to be with him forever, so you think of reasons to have a passionate fall-out followed by a heartbreaking goodbye scene, both preferably in the pouring rain. Still, it all only takes place in your mind.

That already doesn't sound normal, don't you think? And if it's not normal, then it's a crush.

I sincerely hope this helps. And if not, well, sorry.

Love,

Rosy Smith

So, lovelies, I'm writing this at 1 pm in my leggings and a slouchy sweater on a Thursday, after sleeping til half past nine and having breakfast watching The Big Bang Theory until 11 while everyone else is at work or school. Get it? Get it??

I'm done with high school, everyone! Tomorrow I'll officially graduate and finally get my diploma so that I can brag about it with proof in my hands.

Of course, that is not the only thing  that comes with gradutaion: There's also the big ceremonial part which will last forever and probably not be very exciting, except for the chance to look your very best and shine your brightest at school for one last time- and get some very nice pictures in the process. Oh, and a whole new part of life and all that. What's not to love?

That's been my mindset regarding this day up until now. Because now, I've watched a YouTube Video on How To Get Ready For A Big Event. Oh my. Don't do that unless the event ist about a month away, or you'll freak out like I did.

For example, it says: 1 week before X, start working on your complexion. It is currently about 14 hours before X and I have yet to brush my teeth. And fix my eyebrows. And get a pedi. And I'm in the choir and I can't find my sheet music.

But hey, I've got my sparkly black dress and my sparkly black Steve Madden heels and I sorta know what hair and makeup look I'm going for - wait, I need to buy some blush and bronzer (mine broke on vacation. Big mess.)- so everything should be alright....I hope. I seriously have to start on all of this now.

Gotta run and turn into the Homecoming Queen version of myself in less than a day; wish me luck.

Love,

Subject in question
No questions needed, we all agree she's beautiful

So, recently, in the far away empire of Sweden, a little girl's dream has become reality. Well, for one girl at least: Sofia Hellqvist married Prince Carl Philip of Sweden and became a princess (as well as Duchess of Värmland, but let's leave that aside). The personally arranged wedding ceremony was perfect, the looks the couple exchanged were so loving and rawly emotional one had to hold back tears of joy (and jealousy), the bride looked gorgeous, just like a princess is supposed to- and the Prince?

His Royalty was a hot topic between my loveliest friend and me, mostly concerned with his hotness. As you may or may not know, I have a serious problem with curls and longer hair on men. The Prince, while having a very nicely shaped face, had his dark hair slicked back with lots of gel or something, and that's a definite deal-breaker to me. Also, he's 36 years old, and while I do go for older guys, that's a tad bit too old for me to find him attractive. However, I would use the term "good-looking". My friend, though, would use the term "insanely hot" and just couldn't wrap her mind around the fact that there were people who didn't see anything in him.
To confirm this phenomenon, she even collected statistical data, and I proudly present the results:

I think the Prince is:
Super hot: 5
Really attractive but not my type: 2
Alright: 2
Rather good- than bad-looking: 1
Ew: 2

See how different the opinions on hotness are? Now, what are we to believe in when it comes to judging looks? How are we to pick out a blind date for a friend ever again, when nothing is valid and everything goes? Would our friends still frown upon our new boyfriend even though we presented them a certified royal heartbreaker?

This dilemma is sort of a sequel to the moccasin-problem I mentioned here.
There are certain standards which commonly define a good-looking man, but they do not seem to guarantee attractiveness. Which is sad, of course, because imagine you're a guy who's got all the good things, such as a jawline, toned body, nice hands, black lashes, sparkling eyes.... And half of the girls don't even care 'cause he simply doesn't do it for them. Or worse, his dream girl only loves him for his great personality. That sounds like a twisted, superficial take on the topic of love, since it's usually the other way around, but trust me, that probably wouldn't feel too great either.

So, let's hope that Princess Sofia  is completely and hopelessly in love with both the air and personality of her fairytale Prince - from what one could see, it certainly seems so.

And now that they are happy ever after, where are the real princes of my generation? I'd like to marry royal too, pretty please....

Love,
Rosy Smith

Ps: Many thanks to my loveliest friend and all participants for the statistics!

….if it’s your birthday today, then please do feel adressed. And if it’s not, well, any day is a good day for cake and feeling good about yourself, so take my best wishes for that!

The real birthday kid, anyways, is my high school crush. You know, the one who has it all: he’s charismatic, he’s smart, he’s the original band guy and he’s seriously hot. Yeah, well, and he’s four years older than me and might still have a girlfriend and my mom introduced us once and I said “hi” in such an awkward way I could still kick myself for and now he lives in an different city ( but we’re Facebook friends, at least! Damn that was a bad one). I’m fine though, I’ve arranged myself with the fact that we’re not going to go on a romantic getaway to Paris (long story) anytime soon. But every once in a while I see him play somewhere and it gets seriously bad again. Recovery approx. 12-48 hours.

So as you may gather, I don’t really have anything to do with the festivities of today, but it makes me think of him in all his gorgeousness. Also, the obvious question occurs: Do I congratulate him on Facebook or not? Because if I do, there are three possible consequences:

A: He doesn’t react in any way because he is so popular that he cannot even see every single one of all the Happy Birthday posts and images and video messages and whatnot. He doesn’t even know where to place me in his endless history of acquaintances. Hence, I will feel stupid for merrily pretending we know each other and the lack of attention will leave me cringing again, just like that time I went to one of his concerts at 14, clad in black like a super cool punk groupie and So. Not. Memorable.
B: He likes the post. Fullstop. Leaving it to me to be unbearably dissatisfied, because seriously, that has been an absolute pointless, solely stressful undercourse.
C: He sees it, likes it, comments it, remembers me, stalks my profile, thinks I’m pretty, messages me, we exchange phone numbers, meet up, fall in love and live happily ever after. Or something in that sorta style.

Sure, C might not exactly be the shortest option at hand but it MIGHT happen lovelies! A girl can dream, right?

After outweighing the amount of possible cringe vs happiness in relation to the current amount of desparation I came to the decision to blow this year’s shot at public admiration/embarrassement and go for a different medium instead : Welcome to my High School Crush Appreciation Post!

Hon, I hope you value the fact that you get a personal shoutout in honor of your birthday. I’ll be over here valuing the fact that you don’t have a girlfriend anymore. See you in Paris!

Love,

….so there’s no need to freak out because you’re behaving a little strange sometimes.
Like, continously lying on the floor for a little while, not moving a muscle, trying to look flawless while you’re thinking about life (or dating a rockstar).
Like, randomly crying a little under the running water while washing your hair.
Like, putting up this big argument with your parents for reasons you forget while talking so that you either seem to be a difficult 5-year old or mentally instable.
It’s perfectly understandable, too, to wonder how you can’t seem to meet hot twenty-somethings who’ll start a tragic love affair with you for hours when you should be putting together your college application. A girl’s got to have priorities, and sometimes they aren’t in sync with your timetable.
And googling prom dresses at the same time as tearing up while watching ice age? You ain’t done nothing yet, lovely.

So whatever weird mood swings and emotional breakdowns you might experience, just know that nowadays it’s almost fashionable to lose your mind from time to time. That doesn’t stop us from being our sparkly self and getting everything we want, does it?

Love,

Rosy Smith
